23.07.2021
THIS BLOG IS A REPEAT OF AN EARLIER BLOG THAT HAD PICTURES THAT WHERE
PHOTOS OF MY PHOTOS,BECAUSE I COULD NOT FIND MY DIGITAL PICTURES. -----NOW
FOUND.-------I sailed by Ferry from Toulon on mainland France to Ajaccio on the
Island of Corsica. - Ajaccio is the Capital of the Island. There is an airport here. -- Napoleon
is everywhere, because Naploleon Bornaparte was born here in 1769. The house where
he was born can be visited. There is a large statue of him , near the rocky grotto
where he played has a small boy. The Port area is interesting, the old town is
great to walk around, with rhe Citadel on the hill. Lovely view from there. There
are plenty of cafes and bars in town, try local sardines.. I stayed at the hotel Dauphin in Bd Sampiera. about 150m from ferry termiinal and 300m from rail station. The hotel was budget and comfortable.
BASTIA where i moved to. Train through lovely mountain scenery. The train was
slow so i could take in the views. Bastia is on the other side of the island, on the
east coast. There is a airport in Bastia. Bastia is in two parts ,with the old port,
and the old quarter above. with the Citadel. The Citadel is from the 15th century
mostly intact. I stayed at the hotel Univers ---- ------ I left the island by ferry to Marseilles .....Everybody i met on Corsica was very friendly. Great Place.
